Ludmila Smirnova, Ph. D., is widely recognized for her leadership in applying emerging educational technologies to teaching.

Global Experience

She served as a key designer and facilitator of Moodle for Teachers workshops at IT4ALL since 2007 and conducted collaborative projects globally.


During her work with Dr. Nellie Deutch, she trained thousands of educators and technology specialists in using Moodle in course design and creative teaching fostering educational transformation and promoting constructive thinking and innovation.

Currently, she is Professor Emerita of Education at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y., where she had taught various education courses since 2001 (Curricular Planning, Methods of Teaching, Literacy and Technology, and Teaching with Technology, Nature of Schools and Society).

She is a certified Smart Board trainer, ThingLink, Voicethread, and Nearpod Certified Educator. She is also a certified Quality Matter Online Courses Reviewer. 

My Favorite Digital Tools


Her favorite digital tools for engaging students in active learning were Hyperdocs, PearDeck, Nearpod, ThingLink, Voicethread, FlipGrid, Screencastify, Wakelet, and Google Suite tools. Her publications include books, chapters, papers, and conference presentations worldwide.

Transformational Experience Prior to MSMC

Before MSMC, Dr. Smirnova was a professor of education at Volgograd State Pedagogical University (Russia) and served as Dean of the School of Foreign Languages. She supervised Masters and Ph.D. dissertations in Linguistics and Pedagogy. She was a lead research educator facilitating the transformation of education in the Volgograd region was instrumental in creating new types of schools and cross-curricular programs. Dr. Smirnova also taught courses for the Dutch students in the social workers program at Nijmegen University, NL, furthering the transformation in the field of social work in the Southern part of Russia. Dr. Smirnova worked in the program for American International Studies and for the students in the Education Program at Ramapo College, NJ. Dr. Smirnova served on the Editorial Board of the Philological Sciences Journal at Moscow State University of the International Relationships and on the Executive Board of the AACE/ edMedia conference.
